One of the First Cases of Autism and HBOT

An early patient I treated provides an example of the kind of improvements we can make with HBOT. I first saw Brian (not his real name) in 1996 when he was four years old. He showed spasticity (high muscle tone) on the right side of his body and also had repetitive autistic behaviors, including emotional detachment from his mother and siblings, a learning disability, speech problems, frequent staring spells with abnormal EEG’s, and cognitive problems. He showed no socialization, meaning that he didn’t relate to those around him. Brian’s problems were likely permanent.

At birth, Brian weighed 12 pounds, 10 ounces, largely because his mother developed diabetes during her pregnancy. However, the diabetes wasn’t treated, and she was two weeks past her due date before labor was induced. Her labor was 30 hours long and arduous, and Brian was born with a grossly misshapen head and had to be resuscitated. He had other signs of distress, as well, and was intubated in the nursery.
